  • At the end of this module, the student should be able to<\/li>
  • Discuss the history, current state and evolution of the Internet-of-Things<\/li>
  • Understand and describe the structure of the Internet-of-Things as well as different instantiations and implementations of the IoT architecture.<\/li>
  • Identify and describe the impact of the IoT on Big data generation and applications.<\/li>
  • Critically evaluate and describe the role and impact of Cloud\/Fog Computing technologies in the IoT.<\/li>
  • Analyze and describe key applications and use-cases of the Internet-of-Things.<\/li>
  • Implement a real-world IoT use-case focusing on an urban or rural IoT application by clearly analyzing, specifying and developing the main building blocks and layers of the IoT architecture of the use-case.<\/li><\/ul><\/td><\/tr>

Main Content<\/strong><\/p><\/td>

  • After an overview of the IoT, the course content is centered around a four layer architecture that includes i) IoT device layer ii) IoT networking layer iii) IoT adaptation layer and iv) IoT application layer. The main topics to be covered include<\/li>
  • Overview of the Internet-of-Things (IoT) including<\/li>
  • IoT evolution<\/li>
  • IoT structure and architecture<\/li>
  • IoT and Big Data<\/li>
  • IoT and Cloud Computing<\/li>
  • IoT sensing layer \u2013 Sensor, Actuator, \/RFID, GPS technologies<\/li>
  • IoT networking layer including IoT communication standards and protocols.<\/li>
  • IoT adaptation layer including IoT-based fog\/cloud storage and analytics.<\/li>
  • IoT application layer with use-cases in smart cities and smart villages<\/li><\/ul><\/td><\/tr>
