The right to privacy includes a right to protection against the unlawful collection, retention, dissemination and use of personal information, Constitution section 14 of the Republic of South Africa

Protection of Personal Information Act

The POPIA seeks to protect the right of privacy that applies to individuals and juristic entities (referred to as data subjects) by the establishment of strict guidelines on how to obtain and process information. These guidelines affects organizations (referred to as the responsible party) and data subjects in various ways and is therefore important that these role players are well informed with regards to the implications. It is with this in mind that a knowledge base, through a semantic representation, for the legislation of the POPIA will be valuable for assisting with the education of both the data subjects and organizations on the POPIA.
